Archives Month!

We’re all very excited around here because Archives month is just around the corner, and we have all sorts of fun activities up our sleeves! In addition to the release of the Archives Month poster, we will be hosting some special tours and activities.

For one thing, a couple of us here at the State Archives have been involved in planning a very exciting upcoming symposium on Native American Archives. The event will be held in Flagstaff on October 2 (Tuesday), and will address issues such as the Society of American Archivists’ Protocols for Native American Archives, implications that NAGPRA has on archivists, and local issues and initiatives here in Arizona. To learn more about the project,  visit the page on the Arizona Archives Alliance website.

Later in the month, we will be part of a four-part archives crawl series around the State. Anyone interested is welcome to tour repositories around the state, and attend happy hour/appetizers afterward with archivists and friends of the archives. Our tour will be happening on Friday, October 12, will be followed by a tour of the Arizona Room at the Burton Barr Public Library, and will end up at the Main Ingredient for appetizers and good conversation! Here is more information on our tour, but check out the Arizona Archives Alliance site to learn about tours in Tempe, Flagstaff, and Tucson. (Click on the image below to go to a clearer PDF).

In addition to our regularly scheduled Tour Tuesday, we will wrap the month up with a special costumed tour of the Archives on Halloween. Without divulging too much about the tour, it will feature some of the villains and superheroes of the Archives. Stay tuned for more information on the special Halloween tour on this blog! As always, we request that you RSVP for any tours at 602.926.3720 as we are only able to accommodate 20 guests at a time.
